The Health Education Department works to improve the quality of health of the Cheyenne and Arapaho people while also encouraging them to live healthy lifestyles. Through a variety of programs and events dedicated to promoting health and preventing disease, the department helps tribal members understand the behaviors and risk factors that can imperil their well-being, while also helping them assume the responsibility for their own health, behavior and lifestyle.

M-Power

To get an up-close look at health issues facing the Cheyenne and Arapaho people, the Health Education M-Power program attended a variety of community outreach events to survey tribal members on the issues of tobacco use, physical activity, and nutrition. The surveys showed that commercial tobacco use and lack of physical activity are important areas that need to be addressed and improved in the Tribal service area.

These issues, along with poor dietary choices, are the leading causes of illness, chronic disease, and early death in Native Americans. As all these illnesses are also preventable, our outreach programs are centered around providing the tools, information, and empowerment needed to help Cheyenne and Arapaho tribal members improve their quality of health so that they can live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
