Substance Abuse – George Hawkins Memorial Treatment Center

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Substance Abuse Program, also referred to as the George Hawkins Memorial Treatment Center, contracts with the Indian Health Service to provide treatment and recovery options to any tribally enrolled member, 18 years of age or older, who is experiencing substance abuse-related issues. The program maintains a 16-bed residential facility in Clinton, with preference for acceptance given to Cheyenne and Arapaho members. Our goal is to offer culturally competent treatment for substance abuse in a highly structured environment that promotes healthy lifestyles and choices, while also providing encouragement, empathy, and assistance in the treatment and recovery process.

The George Hawkins Memorial Treatment Center provides clients a 90-day stay in a modern facility that is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During that period, the program offers intensive in-patient services, including assessment, individualized treatment planning, group counseling, individual counseling, psycho-education, life skills training, and outside referrals to address any unmet needs.

In addition to the in-patient services, our clients attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, Narcotics Anonymous meetings, and 12-step study classes to assist with their recovery. We take pride in incorporating culturally competent treatment with the use of programs like White Bison and Red Road to Wellbriety. Traditional ways of healing are also offered through sweat lodges and cultural activities coordinated by staff.
